The embryology laboratory is the heart of any IVF clinic. The environment must mimic the inside of a fallopian tube as closely as possible. Cleanrooms should have ISO 5 or ISO 6 certification to filter out volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and microparticles, which are toxic to developing embryos. Ask if the clinic uses laser-assisted hatching for embryo transfers and whether they have benchtop incubators to allow individual cultivation chambers for each patient.
Large volume clinic chains frequently use standardized clinical protocols (e.g. putting every patient on standard antagonist cycles). While this lowers operational costs, it can lead to poor outcomes for women with low AMH or severe PCOS. Personalized monitoring—where hormone dosages are adjusted daily based on follicular ultrasound scans—usually yields better blastocyst results.
